Mirror carp are a genetic mutant of the common carp. They have an irregular, patchy scalation along the dorsal and lateral lines. It is believed that this trait was bred by monks to make them easier to prepare for the table.
Mirror carp are a very popular angling fish and commonly grow in excess of 60lb. The current world record, as of November 2010 is 99lb, over 7 stone!
As with other Caprinus carpio varieties, a large pond with a depth of at least 1 metre will be required.
