Now that Autumn is in full swing it’s that time of year when many of you will be turning your attention to tidying up your pond and garden. With that in mind OATA have once again launched their Be Plant Wise campaign.

Be Plant Wise aims to help protect the environment by “Stopping the spread of invasive plants.” The main thrust of the campaign is detailed below:

OATA explain that Invasive plants can harm native plants by spreading pests and plant diseases, and competing for space, light, nutrients and water. This in turn has a wider impact on not only plant life but also other species which rely on native plants, which include butterflies and other insects - and could threaten the survival of rare plant species.

What can I do to help?

The main way to help is to follow the 3 steps above. Oata have also produced a leaflet with further information for you to Download and Keep. And there’s a InfoPoster that you can print off and put in your window. By bearing these simple rules in mind you’ll be doing your bit to protect the environment and the great British countryside for ourselves and generations to come.
