What size waterfall pump do I need?
The size of the waterfall pump you need depends on the height and width of your waterfall, as well as the flow rate you desire. A good rule of thumb is to calculate the required flow by aiming for 100-150 litres of water per hour for every 2.5 cm (1 inch) of waterfall width. You will also need to consider the height from the pump to the top of the waterfall (also called "head height") as pumps lose efficiency at greater heights. Always check the pump’s specifications to ensure it can handle both the desired flow rate and the head height of your waterfall feature.
How do I maintain a waterfall pump?
Maintaining your waterfall pump involves regularly cleaning it to prevent debris and algae build-up, which can reduce its efficiency or cause damage. Check the pump’s filter and impeller periodically and clear away any dirt or leaves that may be obstructing the flow. For colder climates, consider removing the pump during winter if freezing temperatures are common, as ice can damage internal components.
