How To Treat Green Water Information

How do I solve my green water problem?

Green Water

Green water in your pond is caused by floating algae that are too small to be removed by your filter. This algae is actually very good for your pond and fish, but pond keepers don't like it as it can look dirty and unsightly.

The easiest and most effective way to combat green water is to install a UVC (ultra violet clarifier). These are often incorporated with a filter box, but are also available to add to your existing system. UVCs contain an ultra violet bulb. When the water passes this bulb, the algae flocculates (clumps together) which means it can be removed by your filter. If you are adding a UVC to your system, it should go between your pump and filter box.

UVC

If you already have a UVC, but are still having green water problems then it is likely that the bulb needs replacing. It is best to do this at the beginning of every spring so that the bulb is working at optimum levels through the summer.

Get Rid of Green Water

If you are looking for a quick-fix solution then why not try one of our green water chemicals? These kill the algae, which then sinks to the bottom. Green water chemicals are best used with a sludge remover as well, as the rotting algae can cause a layer of sludge on the bottom of your pond.
